PUNE: The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), meant for sick, premature and low birth weight babies, made operational at the civic-run Sonawane hospital a fortnight ago, is plagued with technical glitches. The unit is yet to get a paediatric ventilator, a perquisite to revive extremely ill newborns. This has forced the staff to refer such babies to the Kamla Nehru hospital, defeating the purpose for which the civic body set up the NICU. Paediatric ventilator is an indispensable part of the NICU.
